Who develops for Atlassian?

For the last seven years, we’ve nurtured a community of hundreds, even thousands, of developers for our products. We’ve had seven editions of Codegeist, seven editions of AtlasCamp (our developer conference), and close to 1,500 add-ons listed in the Atlassian Marketplace and its predecessor, the Atlassian Plugin Exchange. Companies like Tempo, Zephyr, Stepstone Technologies, and more have seen significant success building add-ons for Atlassian products. So have individual developers like Bob Swift and Andriy Zhdanov.

What’s the Atlassian Marketplace?

The Atlassian Marketplace is a one stop shop for Atlassian customers to browse, try, and buy add-ons for JIRA, Confluence, Stash, Bamboo, and more. By selling your add-on via Atlassian, you instantly gain access to an existing audience of thousands of enterprise customers who visit the Marketplace every single day. Time and time again, companies like Tempo and Zephyr have proven that launching a successful business on the Atlassian Marketplace is within reach of any talented developer.

Codegeist launches on February 1, 2013. Prizes will be awarded on a rolling basis each month through May 31, 2013. This means we will award prizes separately for add-ons submitted in February, March, April, and May. Your add-on will be judged based on the month it is submitted to the Atlassian Marketplace. All entries are due by 6:00 PM PDT on May 31, 2013.

You! Anyone with a knack for software development can build an add-on for Atlassian. To write a plugin, all you need is the Atlassian Plugin SDK and a little bit of Java. Or use our REST APIs and write in any language you like!

How many entries can I submit?

As many as you like! However, you cannot submit the same add-on (even different versions of the same add-on) in multiple months. If you are building a product and intend on iterating, we will judge your submission based on the potential we see in your idea as well as the current version.

Can I sell my submission as a commerical add-on on the Atlassian Marketplace?

Yes! In fact, if your submission is good enough to be worth money, it probably has a good shot at winning a prize. Follow these instructions for creating a paid-via-Atlassian add-on listing in the Marketplace.

If I’ve already submitted an add-on to the Marketplace, can I enter it in Codegeist?

Sorry, only add-ons that were not publicly available on the Marketplace before February 1, 2013 are eligible for the competition.
